Colombia: Alvaro Uribe Announces Resignation From the Senate


After the Supreme Court of Justice announced that Alvaro Uribe Vélez would be investigated, the former president announced via Twitter his resignation. Uribe said he "feels morally impeded to be a senator."


The tweet reads: 
"The Supreme Court has called an inquiry, they did not hear me previously, I feel morally impeded to be a senator, I will send my resignation letter so that my defense does not interfere with the tasks of the Senate"
Uribe, was president of Colombia between 2002 and 2010.
Through a statement, the Supreme Court explained that it has collected evidence that leads them to carry out a formal investigation against Uribe.
The Court called Uribe and Álvaro Hernán Prada Artundua to be investigated for the alleged crimes of bribery and fraud.
