With a release clause amounting to €100 million (US$120.3 million) paid to the athlete’s former team, Brazil’s Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, Mina will bolster Barcelona’s defense.

The center-back has proved himself a strong asset to his former team, supporting them to triumph as league title-winner in 2016 and scoring a total of nine goals during the team’s 49 matches.

"Yerry Mina now comes to Barça with the opportunity to continue developing as a footballer following his move to Europe," declares a glowing statement on the FC Barcelona website. "Without a doubt, the Colombian has the potential to make it."

Speculations surrounding the transfer hint that the 23-year-old may be arriving as a replacement for former Liverpool athlete Javier Mascherano, who is packing his bags to play for Chinese club Hebei Fortune.
