The Spanish footballing authorities have refused to accept the £198million paid to buyout Neymar’s release clause.
Lawyers acting on behalf of Paris Saint-Germain deposited the money with La Liga, but the league’s president, Javier Tebas, is unwilling to approve the deal.
Juan de Dios Crespo, a lawyer specialising in sports, was in charge of handing the cheque over to La Liga’s hierarchy and will now have to seek other means to progress the transfer of Neymar from Barcelona to PSG.
If La Liga continue to stand their ground on the matter, then PSG’s representatives will be forced to lodge the matter with Fifa in the coming days.
Brazilian Neymar is expected to arrive in France on Friday in order to finalise the world record transfer.
