Seven People Killed in Catatumbo Region, Colombia


The Colombian Ombudsman’s Office reported Monday the murder of seven people in El Tarra, Catatumbo region (Norte de Santander department). The crime occurred in a pool located in the Villa Esperanza neighborhood, in northeastern Colombia.

Preliminary versions indicate that the murderers arrived on a motorcycle and shot at the victims. The Ombudsman’s Office repudiated the massacre through its Twitter account.



Also, on Monday Raúl Buitrago,46, a peasant leader in the department of Caquetá was murdered. Buitrago was shot several times after leaving a meeting as vice president of a Community Action Board. He also led processes of substitution of illicit crops in the municipality of San José del Fragua.
