It wouldn’t be Destiny without someone finding a gamebreaking exploit over the course of the season, and here we are without first big problem that has now been discovered in the wake of people starting to pull enhanced mods from Iron Banner.
I was turned on to this glitch/exploit by Chadlantis, who demonstrates what’s going on in the video below:
Yes, it’s our old friend Telesto, back again to cause more problems. Players may remember that Telesto was causing issues in Blind Well, where every exploding bolt counted as an enemy kill, making clearing that activity a breeze. Bungie eventually patched that, but now the issue is cropping up again.
This is a tiny bit more complicated than the old Telesto Well cheese, as you have to do more than just shoot the gun.
You need an Enhanced Ashes to Assets mod, which drops from Iron Banner packages (I got one) among other pinnacle activities, I believe. That turns grenade kills into big super gains.
Then, you need a Telesto with at least four shots in it. You lay them down on the ground and then throw a grenade to blow them all up.
The game thinks those Telesto bolts are enemies, so when you kill them all at once, voila, instant super, as seen in the video.
I don’t believe there is much more required than what I just mentioned, as this doesn’t have to do with the seasonal artifact or anything. Just Telesto, that mod, and grenades. Though I can’t quite fully get the trick as my best is about 80% super gain. I think I need to spread out my bolts more or something. But still.
This is an urgent problem because it works in both PvE and PvP, the latter being an imminent problem especially when Iron Banner is live. It also favors a certain selection of people, those with Enhanced Assets to Ashes, so everyone is not on equal footing with the exploit. Yes, I am helping this spread by writing about it, but the more attention it gets, the sooner Bungie fixes it, and it’s clear this is going to be a very urgent fix because of the PvP implications. And that may involve just straight-up disabling Telesto for the time being ahead of a more permanent fix to this issue. Bungie must be sick of this gun by now. (Update: Also, Xur is selling Telesto this weekend, amazing).
Don’t be a jerk and go use this in PvP. Do be a jerk to enemies in PvE and use it because no one cares about them. I’ll update this article if and when this gets addressed by Bungie. Stay tuned.
Update: Annnnd Telesto is now disabled. Heheh.
