Three children and a woman have died following a house fire in Bolton.
Emergency services were called to the blaze in Rosamond Street shortly after 9am on Saturday.
A man managed to escape from the house but the other four were still inside, Greater Manchester Police said.
A child was pronounced dead at the scene and a woman and two children were taken to hospital, but they were pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
The children include two boys and a girl, all under the age of 13.
The man, who managed to escape, is currently in a stable condition.
The cause of the fire is being investigated but it is not being treated as suspicious.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Bridge said: “These are utterly heart-breaking circumstances and our thoughts go out to anyone affected by this tragic incident.
“This appears to be a family home and we have been working to inform loved ones of this awful loss.
“This happened on a Saturday morning when many people would be up and about and I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to please call us.”
Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, tweeted that his thoughts were “with the family, their friends and the whole community”.
Officers remain at the scene and roads in the surrounding area have been closed.
